TIGER! TIGER!
3
Days Corbett National Park (ex- Delhi)
Corbett Tiger
Reserve was established in 1936 as India’s first National
Park. With its varied topography, diverse flora and fauna,
natural splendor of its landscapes and beautiful location
in the foothills of the Himalayas by the Ram Ganga River,
the Park is a precious heritage. It may seem incongruous for
a National Park in India to be named after the famous British
hunter, author and pioneer conservationist Jim Corbett but
he was instrumental in setting up the reserve.
Corbett was
the first designated Project Tiger Reserve, in 1973. Apart
from the tiger, other animals to watch are leopard, wild dog,
sloth bear, elephants, wild boar, blue bull and varieties
of deer, primates and a range of reptiles. A fine reservoir
on the river attracts diverse species of birds, both local
and migratory. The Ramganga River is popular with anglers
as it is noted for its sporting fish, the mighty Mahaseer.
There are viewing
towers as well as jungle rides for visitors every morning
and evening. The best season to be here is Mid November to
Mid June or April/May. The park remains closed from Mid-June
to Mid-November for the monsoon.
