Agra - the
City of the Taj Mahal is an educational and business centre
known for its craftsmen and handicrafts. Traditionally an
integral part of ‘Braj Bhoomi’ or the land of Lord Krishna,
The city witnessed the rise of the pomp and pageantry under
the three great Mughal monarchs, Akbar, Jahangir and Shahajahan,
all of whom lavished on this city, their love and riches to
transform the land into one of the great centers of art, culture,
learning and commerce. Marble and soft-stone inlay work, carpet
and leather goods are some important traditional crafts of
the city.
DAY TO DAY ITINERARY
Day 01 –
Delhi / Agra
06:30 to
12:45 hours
Drive to Agra through
the Indian countryside. Upon arrival proceed to see the wonder
of the world – the incomparable Taj Mahal. Built in 1652 by
Emperor Shahajahan this monument of love is a fine example
of the fusion of many architectural styles.
13:00 to
14:00 hours
Proceed to Hotel
Trident in Agra where a sumptuous buffet lunch awaits you.
14:00 to
15:00 hours
After lunch visit
the Agra Fort. Built in red sandstone, the forbidding exteriors
of the fort hide an inner paradise – magnificent palaces,
exquisite halls of public and private audience, a marble mosque
and beautiful gardens. This is where Emperor Shahajahan was
kept under house arrest by his third son Aurangzeb and spent
the last year of his life viewing the Taj Mahal from across
the river Yamuna.
15:00 to
15:30 hours
Visit to a marble
factory to see the beautiful inlay of precious and semi precious
stones into the marble.
Thereafter,
You are transferred to the hotel for overnight stay.
Day 02 –
Agra – Fatehpur Sikri / Delhi
This morning visit
Fatehpur Sikri, the abandoned Mughal capital, which is a masterpiece
of Indo-Islamic architecture unique in India. Built in red
sandstone this nearly intact city is a beautiful blend of
Hindu and Islamic architectural elements. Rest of the day
is at leisure.
16:00 to
16:30 hours
You join the same
day Agra travellers and finally before driving back to Delhi,
a brief visit to the mausoleum of Mughal Emperor Akbar at
Sikandra. The tomb is a splendid example of the combination
of Hindu and Muslim architecture and represents Akbar’s philosophy
and secular outlook.
Return to Delhi
around 21:30 hours stopping midway for refreshments.
